Pouch Cove Public Art Project
The Pouch Cove Public Art Committee has selected the artwork, “Sky Tower”, proposed by artist Tonya Hart
to be this year’s new sculpture. The new sculpture will be installed later this year.
Thanks to funding provided by ArtsNL, private funding, and support from The Town of Pouch Cove, the
Pouch Cove Public Art Committee had invited Canadian professional artists to submit an Expression of
Interest” for the outdoor sculpture project. We then shortlisted three artists and invited the public to view
the models and presentations.
The Pouch Cove Public Art Committee thanks artists Finn Modder and Elena Martoglio for sharing their
creative concepts with the community and providing an opportunity for conversations about public art.
The concept behind the Plinth Project is to replace artwork every twelve months, providing a platform for
diverse artistic expressions. The PAPAC remains committed to enhancing the cultural environment of Pouch
Cove, connecting residents, and inviting visitors to the area through our existing and future public art
projects.
The Pouch Cove Public Art Committee (PCPAC) is a group of volunteers committed to enhancing the cultural
and visual landscape of Pouch Cove by bringing contemporary outdoor art installations to public spaces.
Collaborating closely with the Town of Pouch Cove since 2020, we have successfully secured funding from
different sources to commission four unique artworks representing diverse mediums and forms. These
artworks not only foster imagination and appreciation but also create a space for public engagement within
our community.
The mandate of the Pouch Cove Public Art Project is to create opportunities for artists to work in the
public realm, to increase interest in our community for public art, and to expand public awareness
and appreciation of diverse art forms and materials.
